Good news, Manchester!
We’re going to be bringing you even MORE projects, MORE support and MORE opportunities to get involved.
Following In Our Nature’s huge successes over the last few years, we’ve been successful in securing a further four years of funding from The National Lottery’s Reaching Communities Fund.
Led by Manchester Climate Ready in collaboration with Groundwork Greater Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University, Stitched Up, Sow the City, Bike It Walk It and Manchester City Council, we’ll be working across the city to bring climate action back down to earth, making it make sense for everyone and our everyday lives.
Manchester, climate action is In Our Nature!
“We’re delighted to be able to bring even more In Our Nature activity to Manchester, improving the lives of local residents and supporting Manchester’s climate ambitions.
Over the next four years we’re going to be building on all the amazing work that’s come before; creating more opportunities for people to get involved and sharing what we learn along the way. We’re really excited to get started.”
“We’re excited to build on the great work that has already been achieved through the In Our Nature partnership. By establishing sustainable food initiatives, supporting people to save energy, and opening up access to green and blue spaces we’re looking forward to expanding community climate action even further across Manchester.”
“Here at Stitched Up we’re really excited to be back with the In Our Nature programme connecting with communities across Manchester.
We will be delivering a range of projects with community at its heart, engaging with groups to teach and share sewing skills - learning to rework, repair and upcycle to divert textile waste from landfill and bring joy and expression into our wardrobes. ”
“Sow the City is excited to help bring more Repair Cafés to Manchester as part of In Our Nature. Every year, we throw away hundreds of pounds’ worth of household items, many of which could be repaired. By working with local fixers and volunteers, we want to help people learn new skills, feel more confident fixing things, and keep items in use for longer.”
“Bike It Walk It CIC’s purpose is to support communities by making walking, cycling and active travel more accessible & inclusive. We help people learn new skills, build confidence, connect with others and feel inspired to live happier healthier lives.”
“We are really looking forward to working with people across Manchester to bring community climate action ideas to life and help create a green and socially just city where everyone can thrive.”
“Climate action works best when it works for everyone. In Our Nature does exactly that, connecting Manchester’s residents with real opportunities to save money, learn new skills, feel healthier and happier and build stronger communities. We’re really proud to continue to be involved, helping to ensure that people are at the heart of our city’s ambitious zero carbon targets.”
What’s coming up?
Over the next four years you can expect lots of opportunities across the city to get stuck into all sorts of exciting projects designed around you and your interests that will have a positive impact on the planet too.
That could include activities like sewing sessions, gardening groups, repair cafes, cycle confidence training, cooking classes, and lots more! Along the way we’ll be sharing inspiring stories from the people involved as well as tips, tutorials and guidance about what we learn to enable further action.
We’ll also be opening further rounds of our Community Support initiative, enabling groups to deliver their own community climate projects that are meaningful to them - watch this space!
On top of that, we’ll be growing our network of Community Champions - people already delivering great work for the city that we want to support through creating opportunities to connect and learn from one another and wider work across the city.
In Our Nature is creating a climate movement that everyone can be a part of.
