In Our Nature Community Champions
Local people - Big ideas - Real change
Our Community Champions are people from across the city who care about their neighbourhoods and who look to make a difference that is both practical and positive in the areas they live in.
Climate, nature and communities are big on our agenda. We meet regularly throughout the year to share ideas, swap skills, and make new connections.
We celebrate our successes and learn from our challenges, gaining experience, and pushing the boundaries of what we can achieve together.
We help bring people together and, when needed, pull in the experts that might be needed to get projects off the ground.
Whether you are starting something new or managing something that already exists, collaborating and building lasting partnerships is what we do.
Community Champion Meeting February 2025
Learning - visiting - doing
Community Champions take part in a rolling programme of activities:
Skill-sharing sessions where people learn from each other and hear from guest speakers.
Hands-on workshops on everything from building a self-watering raised bed and transforming a wheelie bin into a wormery, to calculating carbon savings from the changes we make.
Site visits to community projects across the city - to see what’s working, gain inspiration, and meet the people making it happen.
These activities aren’t just interesting - they’re genuinely useful. They help our Community Champions develop the confidence, connections, and practical know-how of making a difference.
Turning good ideas into real-world actions.
Why this matters?
We believe that stronger connections make for stronger communities: building physical, mental, emotional, and social resilience. Bringing people together and working on shared solutions helps our Community Champions tackle local challenges.
This group is a group of doers and sharers - building momentum for climate action in their own streets.

"It’s brilliant to meet people from all over Manchester who are doing wonderful projects , big and small. The advice and experience in the room sparks ideas you can bring back to your own neighbourhood. I’ve enjoyed the support and the ideas for future workshops such as applying for funding or how to set up a group. The team are approachable and friendly and have great knowledge and insights."
